Science Fair

Every year, many MRGS students take their individual research projects to the Regional Science Fair. Often, they return with accolades, monetary awards, and specific feedback that allows them to refine their research. This year, a Junior named Kiernan Sheahan won first place and [money] for his research into dimples' effects on the aerodynamics of airfoils. [something about other students as well]

Research at Green Bank Observatory

At the beginning of the 24-25 Academic Year, the new Junior class traveled to West Virginia's Green Bank Observatory to learn about the science behind radio telescopes. Then, students worked on rotating shifts in the 40-foot telescope's bunker to take readings of the Milky Way throughout the night. It was a life-changing trip for some, who said it influenced their choice of a research project. Others said it influenced them to contemplate a career in Astronomy.

Student Atmospheric Research (STAR) Balloon

Through the collaboration of a few key donors and programs, MRGS students had the opportunity to launch an atmospheric balloon with student-designed experiments for the payload. Middle school students also had the opportunity to submit experiments to be flown as well. This experience was an impactful moment for middle and high school students alike, and with continued funding, we hope to be able to launch another balloon next year.
